5 Painting Myths You Need To Stop Believing TODAY!
Are you getting ready to paint your home? Have you read some things that made you question how to go about it? The world is full of painting myths, and unfortunately, some of them can result in a terrible painting project result.
Luckily, Davison Painting is coming to the rescue! Today, we’re going to bust all of those downright silly myths about painting, so you can get your painting project done RIGHT. Let’s get into it!
1) You Only Need Primer If You’re Going Lighter Or More Vibrant
Primer has so many painting myths attached to it, the most important one being that you don’t even need it unless you’re painting over a dark color or going with something really vibrant. And while it does help vibrant and lighter colors stand out better, the primer does so much more than that. It also helps prep the walls so that the paint goes on smooth as butter (and even lasts longer)!
2) You Won’t See Pinholes After Painting, So Don’t Bother Patching Them Up
The next painting myth on the list is that patching up small holes is a waste of time. But no matter the size, it’s always better to patch up holes in your wall before painting. Even tiny blemishes on the walls from picture hangers or thumbtacks should be patched up with some drywall putty, or they will stick out like a sore thumb.
3) All Brands Make The Same Paint Colors, Just With Different Names
No paint shade’s identical to another, whether it’s from a different company or not. Each paint company has its own formulations for each shade, which will vastly differ from each other. Even two shades that look the same in a sample will likely look completely different on the wall. Some companies may offer color matching, but even then, it’s never really perfectly the same.
4) Stored Paint Lasts Forever
It may seem like a good idea to store your old paint for later, but it won’t likely last long enough to use. Stored paint only lasts for a few months before it starts to oxidize and change color. So, it’s just best to get what you need and go back for more if you need to.
5) You Can Only Paint In Good Weather
This may not be so much of a painting myth as it is a rule of the past. There was a time when house paint was made of toxic ingredients that would need a lot of airing out, but it also wouldn’t dry in colder weather. Today, paint is made with much safer ingredients that not only emit fewer odors but can dry in almost any kind of weather.
The Worst Painting Myth: Doing It Yourself Is Easier
It may be easier to paint yourself for smaller projects like a wall or small room, but not when it comes to painting the whole house or outside. Exterior painting also poses a lot of safety risks that you’re better off avoiding. Plus, the quality is always better when it’s professional. You can’t argue that!
